My experience with Hospice

We used hospice for my dad when he was in his last days with his fight against cancer. They helped him be as comfortable as possible.
On the other hand my mom has been under hospice care for almost 2 years. From what I understand based on her condition (paralyzed from the neck down with frequent seizures) she is not able to be removed from hospice care. She is not terminal but she slips into comas a few times a year. They send over a chaplain to visit with her a few times a week as well a social worker. However, when my mom had her latest coma they had her sent to the hospital which makes no sense because she has a do not resuscitate order. We are now having to dispute the ambulance bill since we did not authorize her to be transferred. Besides this incident they have been a fairly useful service. If you have any hospice related questions just let me know.

I'm so sorry for you loss. What was it like working with hospice? What types of things did they do for your dad.

The hospice company that I used, Odyssey did their best to make sure my dad was as comfortable as possible. They ensured that he had enough morphine. The most important thing they did in my opinion was helping keep me and my family informed about my dads condition. He was under hospice care for about 2 weeks and they would call me whenever there was a change in his condition or just to give an updated status. They also let me know the day they thought he would die that I should come to the nursing home and they were right. So I was able to be with my dad until the end.

That's so careless of them. They should be aware of the condition of their patients and they must strictly follow what's supposed to be done. I guess it's down to choosing the hospice company because not all share bad experiences in this type of care. I just hope everything goes well.

It depends on the services and yeah I can say it's worth it as long as you'll be getting the kind of service you deserve.
