My mom was complaining about the food today saying that it is overcooked.  I had to work really hard to get her off the soft diet.  And then it was another ordeal to get her on the low sodium diet.  Has anyone else had issues with food at nursing homes?

Can you please specify the name of the nursing home. If it is Manor Care its a terrible place as many people have stated. The care is the fault of the management for hiring incompetent staff.

Just about every nursing home I worked at had overcooked, unseasoned food.
Lunch veggies would be cooking at 9:00 am. Never any fresh fruits or veggies as they were too expensive.
One place was the exception, but it was a private pay, very expensive home.

Over cooked or bland food is a common complaint that I see often. I think it's a good idea when you are looking at nursing homes to have a meal there or at the very least to tour the kitchen and the dining room so you can see what they are cooking. I'd also recommend that you ask the dietician or nutritionist questions about diet at the nursing home.

Since I moved my mom to a residential facility the food has been much better.  My mom loves salad and they make sure she gets one at least once a day.  They also use her favorite salad dressing.  She has told me repeatedly that the food is much better than the other home.  I have also noticed that food seems much healthier overall as well.

Unfortunately, nursing home food is usually pretty lousy. Since budgets are tight, most nursing homes cannot afford to buy the best quality products. Buying food in bulk usually means sacrificing taste. Another reason why nursing home food is not great is because many people in the nursing homes are on restricted diets that limit the amount of sugar, salt, and fat they can have. This means flavor cannot be added to the food.

I am a former LPN who worked in nursing homes. I can recall seeing pans of vegetables cooking on the stove at 8:00 am to be4 served for lunch. Fresh fruits and vegetables were rarely served as they were too expensive.

Another under utilized asset is your database of all your current and past customers and prospects. Reactivate your past customers with a reactivation campaign, contact current customers to increase the average sale, contact prospects to communicate your new usp.

Hello,

A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Nursing homes provide what is called custodial care, including getting in and out of bed, and providing assistance with feeding, bathing and dressing. However, nursing homes differ from other senior housing facilities in that they also provide a high level of medical care.

Thanks,

Good thing you were able to move out your mom from that nursing home that provides lousy food.  There is nothing worse than being served unhealthy and bland food when you should be taking in healthy food.
