My mom has now been in a residential nursing home for about 2 months and it is definitely exceeding my expectations.  She seems happier, healthier and she is eating much better.  My mom was a standard for about 2 years before we decided to move her.  I was nervous at first but it has worked out so well that I am sorry we waited this long.  There is a dog at her new home that she has really bonded with as well too.  I would encourage anyone that has a loved one in a nursing home to look into these if they are available in your area.  They are normally private pay only but can be significantly cheaper than other options as well.  Let me know if you have any questions.

I know exactly what you mean - when I first went looking at homes it was clear to me that nursing homes (and some residential homes) are now full of people who are much further along in their journey. I think this is actually a function of the current idea of keeping people in their own homes as long as possible. I got round that by finding an extra care facility which allowed to have own flat, on site carers and fast access to the nursing home in the same grounds.

That's good to hear! Smiley It's okay to shell out some more money if comfort and extra care will be given to our loved ones.

The real meaning of Nursing Homes

Nowadays, population lives longer due to medical improvement. This means that more elder care facilities are now available to help families. That is why today, nursing Homes are also beginning to gain popularity. Nursing Homes provide all personal and nursing care to the elders. Nursing homes provide 24hour health care. It is the best option for the person, who needs medical care after discharge from hospital. In nursing homes they recover very fast.

that is actually one of the advantages of placing your loved one under specialized care.  they can provide 24/7 care that will not only be good for a person's physical health but as well as her emotional health. good to hear your mom is doing great.

I think this is the best options seniors have right now and I hope there will be more residential homes that would open soon. Great job!  Smiley

It may be a good option to move your loved ones into nursing homes for their good health but it's not a best choice. Home care gives the familiar environment and keep your loved ones stress free. Home care also help in providing the good health and medical support and try to fulfill the basic needs what your elders require in their golden age.
