Hello  Smiley  I am so happy to have found this forum.  It is something that is desperately needed.  A place to learn, share ideas, thoughts and knowledge!  Thank you Big J!

My Mom, age 82, was diagnosed with alzheimer's around 2003.  She still lives in her home with my Dad.  They live about 25-30 minutes away from me.  We live in NY.  My goal is to keep her in her home as long as possible.  Mom gets 24/7 home health care through medicaid.  My Dad, age 78, is starting to show some dementia and has other health issues.  I find myself reading about nursing homes every 2-3 years.  I did visit a few NH a few years back.  I am researching once again and hope to have a small list of acceptable NH, just in case.

Anyone from NY?  Take care. Smiley

Hi Min 2009 and welcome to the nursinghomeboard.  I was in a similar situation where my mom was able to live at home with my dad with the help of home health care for several years.  It was only after he got too sick that we had to transfer her to a nursing home.  My mom is now at her third facility and let me tell you not all of them are created equal.  She is at a residential home now which is an actual house and she is getting much better care now.  The only downside is that she is a bit more isolated because there are only 2 other residents there but she is doing much betters since we moved her.  I'm in Texas so I'm not sure if they have these in NY but you may want to consider this as an option as well.

Thank you for the welcome Big J and for the info.  I don't believe there are residential homes in NY.
If I find out differently, I will let you know. Smiley
