If you have done some reading about senior housing, you know there is a wide range of choices for independent living and for housing with services.  The cost can vary a great deal due to the following:

Location.
  • The cost of senior housing can parallel that of other housing in the local area.

Size of residence.
  • If you explore independent living, you’ll find the accommodations vary from small one-bedroom units in an apartment complex to large single-family homes in an upscale retirement community.

Amenities or services.
  • Some senior apartments offer little more than a community area for recreation or socializing while some retirement communities may have their own golf course, health club, classes and other organized social activities.  For extra fees, housework, laundry, shopping and transportation may be available.

Personal services.
  • “Assisted living” can be little more than providing communal meals or it could include help with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and getting around—custodial care.

Medical needs.
  • For people with chronic illnesses or with significant disabilities, the care of trained professionals may be a necessity, making housing more costly.

Some elderly have special needs and they require special attention of highly trained professionals depending on their condition. The level or quality of support and assistance can affect the cost of senior housing.

Definitely location and facilities have a lot to do with the cost of nursing homes and senior care.  Prices vary a lot on different locations that is why families sometimes tend to choose homes that are far from them just because they are cheaper

Location plays an leading part in deciding the cost of senior housing. Depending on where your housing is, it will be priced. Remember, senior housing can cost as much as other housing if the location is a prime one.If you are curious in living independently, you will be able to find one-bedroom apartment or a large single-family apartment in a retirement community. However, the cost will dependent on the size of the house.

The last 3 in your list is very important specially for patients who require long term specialized care.
